Someone Very Special

Do you have someone special in your life!

This someone “Special” can be anyone you love and admire and someone who makes you happy that this person is in your life.  It can be a sibling, a parent, a boyfriend, girlfriend. secret friend.  It may be your wife or husband.  No matter who it is, this is the time of year when you have a chance to acknowledge how special they are to you!

In my early days of growing up, it was my grandmother that I usually honored on Valentines Day.  She sacrificed to put a roof over my head and to be sure there was enough food of the table.  As I got older, other people came into my life to influence my thinking.

I think Valentines Day is more than just flowers and candy.  I think it should be a time of reflection to acknowledge all the love others have shown you and a chance for you to review how other people have come into your life to impact it in a meaningful way!

Happy Valentines day

Selecting music for wedding ceremony

Selecting music for your wedding ceremony

It is one of the most important days of your life.  You are getting married!  There is a lot of planning to do.  One of the important factors to consider is music for your wedding ceremony.

Your wedding ceremony music helps set the tone for your entire event.  Are you going to have a traditional wedding or go for something more contemporary?  The wedding ceremony music creates the mood, evokes emotion and serves as a guide to the progression of the ceremony.

There are a variety of musical instruments to choose from.  The church organ is the most traditional instrument but other popular instruments include the violin, guitar, flute, harp and piano.  You may want to consider hiring a duet, trio or quartet.  You may also want a vocalist to sing a song during the ceremony.

Hiring for ceremony and cocktail hour.  Often when you hire a musician to perform at your ceremony, you can ask them to stay and play at your cocktail hour or reception as well.  You should be able to negotiate the fee for both aspects up front.  Keep in mind that along with the actual playing time, your fee also includes the musician’s practice and preparation of music before the event, travel, set-up , hold time, playing as guests arrive to be seated, the ceremony, and as wedding party and guests depart.

What can you expect to spend?   Ceremony music can span a wide range depending on the type of instruments, the number of musicians and quality of artists.  Las Vegas has a lot of outdoor weddings. How suitable are the instruments for your venue?  Is power needed?  You can expect to pay between $150-$300 for a solo artist to more than $1,200 for a string quartet.  If you have a special song request that the artist must buy and learn, expect to pay between $50 and $100 dollars

The magic moment is here!  The wedding couple and bridal party are about to make their grand entrance and walk down the aisle. What wedding ceremony music did you select?  You may consider the traditional Wagner’s “Here Comes the Bride” and Pachelbel’s “Canon in D”.  Or are you more contemporary, looking for a song that captures your spirit like “Marry Me” by Train.  Many of these songs are also used for processionals and recessionals and/or serve as prelude music or postlude music.

Here are some steps to help you make the right musical decisions:

  1. Decide what type of wedding ceremony suits you best as a couple? Classical or Contemporary.
  2. Consider the setting of your nuptials? Church, Wedding Chapel, Outdoor Wedding?
  3. Evaluate the religious or non-religious undertones such as candle lighting or rose ceremony or any other special moments that music can underscore.
  4. Decide on the main instrument. Violin is a beautiful accompaniment as well as flute, guitar or organ. String duet or trios are popular and can be paired with other instruments.
  5. Allow music professionals that play wedding venues to help you make the right musical decisions and book well in advance to secure your date and time and to allow adequate preparation.
  6. Ask for musical samples including videos and/or audio and also ask for sample of musician’s repertoire.

If you are considering a solo, duet or string trio, The Las Vegas Violinist (www.LasVegasViolinist.com) Tatiana Barone, brings romantic charm to every wedding.

Learning to Play Violin

From Jazz, Blues, Country to Classical music, you will find the influences of the violin

The Violin is one of the most beautiful and versatile instruments you can learn to play.

Violin has it origin in Classical music and great composers like Paganini,Bach and Dvorak, to name just three, composed and performed beautiful  violin music. The violin has been around for over five centuries, and the instrument continues to draw some of the greatest talents from around the world.  Today we have the genius of Itzahk Perlman, Joshua Bell and modern day artists like Vanessa May, David Garrett and popular Lindsey Sterling.

Learning to play violin takes dedication and practice.  A property foundation is essential if you want to be proficient with this instrument.  Lots of practice and you will see the reward of being able to play a variety of music to fit your musical taste and delight your audiences!

Just because someone knows how to play violin, doesn't mean they know how to teach violin!  This is two different skill sets.  Too often we get students who have played violin for two or three years and have developed bad habits and have not advanced as they should.  Once these bad habits are corrected, it is impressive how a dedicated student can move forward.

Tatiana has taught violin and piano for years at Russian University before coming to the United States.  Her teaching skill gives her students a leg up and a faster path to learning to play violin  than most other teachers.

If you are interested, call Tatiana, make an appointment and be prepared to be impressed! (702) 769-7685

Love knows no boundaries

Having played hundreds of weddings, I see that love in the air comes in all shapes, sizes and sexes.

Why do we need someone else’s approval of what our heart is telling us is right?  Only you know what makes you happy!  I am happy to say I know some couples that don’t fit the traditional mold of what society deems acceptable and yet they are perfectly happy and content in they lives and with one another.

My husband has a very good saying:  “Do not follow where the path may lead, go instead where the is no path and leave a trail others can follow!”  Allow people to live their lives how they want and in a way that makes them happy.

The recent tragedy in Orlando is a symbol of people not trying to understand and accept one another for who they want to be.  My heart goes out to my gay and lesbian friends who suffer everyday because they chose their own paths.  May they light the way to better understanding that love knows no boundaries!

I Love Weddings

This is an event that is the conclusion of a budding romance.

Getting married,  is a loving commitment to each other that your love and affection for each other is so strong that the idea of being with someone else, doesn’t even seem possible!

When we perform for weddings, love is certainly in the air and it is a magical moment!

How and where wedding couples decide to get married is always interesting to us.  Sometime it is a grand affair and other times, just a simple wedding and bonding between two people in love.  No matter how or where you chose to get married, I am always honored to be someone you chose to share this event with!

Valentines Day, Day of Love

Valentine’s Day is a Special Day

This is a popular wedding day of course.  We are busy this day with parties and a proposal.  While we should be expressing our love to the special people in our lives more often than just Valentine’s Day,  it is wonderful that we have a day specially dedicated to lovers!

I met and married my husband in January, five years ago when I moved to America.  He has always been a big supporter and fan of mine and an important part of my success as a Violinist here in Las Vegas.  Our marriage is not only filled with love, but it is a successful partnership that supports my passion for playing violin and entertaining guests.  I feel that I could not have the success in Las vegas that I enjoy today as an entertainer if Terry was not part of my team.

So this day of love, Valentine’s Day, I say to my husband, Thank you Darling for your love and support and I am happy we are such good team together!

The Value of Live Musicians for Your Wedding

Many times a wedding couple, planning out their wedding, tries to decide whether to have live music played during their ceremony.  If your budget allows it, it is an excellent choice and here is why:  As the bride does last minute preparations for this most important day, guests are arriving.  Tatiana plays as guests arrive to be seated.  This varies as to whether the bride is on time or not.  (Usually not)  Everyone is nervous and violin music sets the tone for the upcoming grand event and calms everyone who is excited.

The violin music during the ceremony can vary according the wedding parties taste.  As the bride walks down the isle towards the altar, all eyes are on her.  This music is the most important music of the ceremony as it sets the mood of the walk.  The wedding music is complimentory to the ceremony and adds a certain romantic elegance to this special affair.  Of course, as the wedding ends with the couple now being proclaimed Husband and Wife, Music announces the celebration of the union and is of a joyous nature as wedding party depart.

Wedding photos always include the violinist as part of the memory package and the time and music will always be with you in photos and videos for years to come.

The musician has a lot of preparation to do before the ceremony.  We must first make sure that all of the wedding details are understood.  If the wedding couple are going to decide their music, this must take place to give the musicians time to make sure they have their music in order, to buy new music as needed and the chance to practice the music to make sure it is just right for the big day.

There is usually 4 to 8 hours of preplanning and preparation, in addition to the ceremony itself, that are required to make sure everything is just right before the ceremony.

As with other events, planning and preparation are the keys to successful implementaion.  We do our best to insure that everything will be perfect for such an important day!
