Women’s Day

Did you know that in most of the world, especially in Europe & Russia, “Woman’s Day” is a national holiday?

“Woman’s Day” celebrates the advances women have made over the ages.  Equal rights, equal pay, the right to vote and the right of qualified women to hold public office or to be the head of major companies.  The United States is advanced in so many areas but could learn a thing or two from their European neighbors.

The “Gender Gap” in major companies is remarkable and is especially noticeable in the United States and England.  While there is plenty of discussion here in the U.S. , very little is being done to give qualified women a seat at the head table.  40% of CEO’s in Russia are women compared to 12% in the United States.

The focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political, and social achievements. Perhaps if Women’s Day was celebrated in the United States as it is in many other progressive countries, Women would be recognized for their achievements not just as mothers but as equal gender partners.

Happy Women’s Day!
